A new 10,000 square metre Constant Climate automated Cargo facility for IAG Cargo at Heathrow Airport. The project had the added challenges and security restrictions associated with working ‘air side’ of an operational airport, within metres of the airport apron and runways.

Mechanically, the project consisted of a small amount of domestic hot and cold water services and associated drainage to offices, meeting rooms and facilities located at the front of the building. A substantial siphonic drainage system dealt with the large volumes of rain water that can come of the 10,000 square metre standing seam roof. However, the largest part of the Mechanical installation being the sprinkler system that was installed to 100% of the building.

Electrically, a new 500kva HV transformer and associated HV supply cable were installed with 3000amp busbar, supplying new LV switch gear located on a mezzanine floor level. High bay lighting suspended from multiphase lighting trunking, provided the majority of illumination to the core of the building.

Multiple internal LV supplies, ranging from 100 amp to 600 amp, were installed to the primary control panels of the automated cargo handling system.

Ancillary systems of fire alarm, emergency lighting and networked lighting control being installed throughout.
